Trying to Ramp Up The Mileage
Thursday, August 28, 2008

I am reading the book "Positively False" by controversial Tour De France winner Floyd Landis. It is a very interesting look into the mind of a serious pro cyclist. I enjoy reading about his history being raised as a Mennonite and being as obsessed with cycling as he is. It is a nice motivator to read about an endurance athlete who is committed to his sport.
One thing cool about Landis, or any pro endurace athlete for that matter, is that they all train with very high mileage. Whether it's Olympic Marthoners, ultra runners, Lance, or another pro cyclist.
I have been doing some reading up on high mileage training after reading this book, and watching the Olympic Marathon and getting pumped up. I have been slowly bringning the mileage up and hopefully increasing my endurance for a future ultra-marathon.
This week, my mid-week run (on Wed) is up to 6 miles. Usually, on this training program I've been following, the mid-week run increases by a mile every 2 or 3 weeks. So 2 or 3 weeks from now on Sept 10 or 17 I'll be increasing my mid-week run to 7 miles.
